Originally started by a group of 15 adults in the community of Carpenter, NC, a part of Wake County located close to Morrisville, Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville, NC began as The Freewill Gospel Church of Carpenter, North Carolina. Land was purchased in Morrisville by Freewill Gospel Church, Inc. for a permanent site for the church on October 1, 1977. In 1982, the membership voted to change the name to Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville NC.
The first Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville was Rev. Richard M. Coman, who was also the architect who drew up the plans for the construction of the church building. The membership of the church actively participated in its construction. After Reverend Coman moved from the area, the Rev. Dick Allen, loved by all, became the second pastor to serve. During this time, Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville became known as “the praying church”. After several years, Pastor Allen moved from the area and Pastor Roy Smith was voted in to serve the growing congregation. Upon the retirement of Pastor Smith in October of 2017, the membership had dwindled to less than 12 members. After a short tenure with several pastors, Pastor Ron Steele, volunteered to be an interim pastor until a new pastor was chosen.
Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville joined the Raleigh Baptist Association in 2019. Through the efforts of the Southern Baptist Convention, we partnered with Bay Leaf Baptist Church of Raleigh (November 2020) for guidance and support of our church and ministry. Through this new relationship, Pastor Preston Bowman became our Pastor, being accepted by the membership of Calvary Baptist Church of Morrisville unanimously. We look forward to the continued growth of our church and pray that God blesses us with new visitors and members to share in the message of God's boundless love. We pray for you and hope that you will visit us soon to continue the history of God’s work in Morrisville, NC through Calvary Baptist Church.
